Strobe Lights and Churches

The nearest physical church (of any denomination) is just down the road. Lately I noticed they’ve put a strobe light on the steeple part and a small lit-up cross on top of the steeple. Kinda looks tacky….especially the strobe light. Yeah it got my attention, but left a negative impression of it.
This weekend I’m going on a church retreat with Corinth Church of Christ in Portland. We’ll actually be going to Taylor Christian Camp in Kentucky. This retreat couldn’t have come at a better time. As you can tell from reading the past posts, I am in the doldrums. So I am hoping for a fresh start with this retreat. The weekend after this one, I have another retreat with my own church. So I’ll have some busy, but relaxing weekends coming up.
I stopped by my sister’s kindergarten class again today. It was mostly for the supposed high school pizza for lunch (they instead had a different kind; I was disappointed). My sister had me reading to the kids and helping out with a simple math exercise. Those kids play all the time. I came in and they were out on the playground. When I left after lunch they were at recess again.

  1. OK, just for the record of this weblog, we do not play all the time in kindergarten. Yes, we play a lot, but if you were in my shoes, with 24 kids in the class, you would let them spend a lot of time on the playground, too, especially this early in the year. Also, these kids will only be five once and have the rest of their school careers to do seatwork in class. Jeff is just afraid to show up early in the morning when we do phonics and other learning activities. He’s still in bed at that hour 🙂 !
